School Newsletter Week 8 Term 3

Changes to Pick Up
As of Monday 7 September, all pick up times will now be 5 minutes later than the current staggered pick up times.

Walking Safely to School Day
Now in its 21st year, National Walk Safely to School Day is an annual event when all primary school students are encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. It is a community event seeking to promote road safety, health, public transport and the environment.

Take up the challenge and walk to school next Friday.

Returning in 2021
We will be asking families to complete a google form before the end of Term 3 regarding your child/ children's intention to return to BBPS in 2021 or to inform us of your intended departure. These responses help in forming classes for next year and determine the activities we provide before and after school as well as the extra curricular activities across the school day. Enrolment numbers determine the amount of teaching staff we can accommodate and class sizes. Some year groups have uneven numbers which potentially leads to the formation of composite classes across a stage.

Safety of students
At times there are issues or concerns which arise throughout the school day but not necessarily brought to the attention of the staff. I value the fact that some children inform their parents when at home and parents often give advice on how to solve these friendship issues. At times, these issues can be concerning and parents feel they need to intervene. I ask parents not to approach children when at school or outside of school as there are more appropriate ways to deal with any concerns. Please inform the class teacher or the school if your child has informed you of any incident they need support with and remind your child to let the teacher know immediately.

Dogs on school site
It has been raised as an issue that parents and carers are bringing dogs onto the school grounds. It is also apparent that this trend is increasing when the weekend markets are on. I remind all families that dogs are not permitted on the school grounds, even if they are on a lead or carried. Please keep the gates free of dogs as children enter or leave.

Online Enrolments
The department will be rolling out the new Online Enrolment System from Monday, 14 September 2020

The Online Enrolment System is designed to provide flexibility for our parents to submit an enrolment application online and at the time that best suits them. The application can be accessed on all browsers and mobile devices including iOS and Android. The online application process is currently restricted to:

  • Enrolments into local schools only
  • Children who are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens or permanent residents
  • Children who live in NSW.

We offer our support and encourage you to complete your application to enrol online. If, however, you do not feel comfortable completing an application online, a paper copy will be available for collection from the front office or can be downloaded from the Department’s going to a public school site.

Further information about online enrolment can be found on our website here.

Kindergarten enrolments for 2021 which have already been submitted as a paper application do not need to be re-done online.

URSTRONG

The URSTRONG sessions are teaching our students how to recognise and maintain healthy relationships. It recognises four friendship facts:

1. All relationships will experience some conflict arising from misunderstandings, disagreements and behaviours we may find annoying. These are called friendship fires and it's important to know how to manage this conflict.

2. We are not all the same so expect that friendships will also look different with different people

3. A healthy friendship is always based on mutual trust and respect

4. We change and our circumstances change so we can expect our friendships may change. This is OK

Premier's Debating Challenge

Bondi Beach Public School went up against Kensington Public School in a very interesting debate on banning primary school kids from having phones. Both teams made strong and engaging cases, but Bondi Beach Public School took out the win. Featured here are our amazing debaters (Jesse, Joshua, Taylor and Sienna).
Congratulations team!

News from 2J
This week 2J have been using Lego WeDo to create and program robots. LEGO WeDo is a robotics hardware and software platform specifically designed for Kindergarten to Grade 2 students and makes computing come to life through hands-on tasks. 2J students spent a long time organising the kits and have enjoyed creating robots that move, make sound and flash different coloured lights.

School Community Fundraiser

Hi all!
I would like your help to raise additional funds for some of the families currently going through cancer treatments, particularly one mum at the school who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Due to the intensive treatment which she requires almost daily, the funds would help elevate some of the financial stress from medical expenses, treatment and any other related costs. The canteen staff have been really kind by providing meals.

Instead of asking for money we would like you to donate an item of clothing (a dress, clothes, a handbag or something you think we could sell at auction).

These items can be donated to Jackie at drop off time in the mornings. She will be collecting each Wednesday and Thursday throughout September (outside school gates).
