School Newsletter Week 6 Term 2
From the Relieving Principal

Congratulations
What a pleasure to present a banner to another of our students for consistently meeting our school expectations of being safe, kind and respectful active learners. Well done Charles!
Research in support of new pedestrian infrastructure
On Friday morning, a small team (approximately two staff from Transport for NSW) will attend morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up to speak with parents and carers. They are collecting baseline data which will allow the evaluation of the effectiveness of the new pedestrian infrastructure once the upgrade is complete. The team will be collecting data on current travel behaviours and attitudes of students, parents and carers towards walking and riding to and from school, before the upgrades take place.
They will be wearing hi-vis jackets and Transport for NSW badges, if you see them and have a moment, please share your experiences so we can improve walking and riding to school for everyone.
A second survey will be conducted on completion of the works.
Choir
Cassy and the school choir have been giving impromptu performances in the quad on Tuesday mornings, much to the delight of the K-2 students who have arrived early. It's a delight to listen to the students perform the songs they have been learning over the year and a popular Tuesday morning activity.

E-bikes
E-bikes are gaining in popularity and we are noticing that there is an increasing number of students riding E-bikes. Yesterday the Police Liaison officer spoke with our Stage 3 students about cyber safety and also road safety in regard to bikes. She pointed out that a number of the big black E-bikes are actually illegal and gave us some pointers on road rules and usage.
What is also concerning, is the rising number of injuries and fatalities involving E-bikes, so if your child has an E-bike or is asking for one, I've included a link to the Transport for NSW advice for families document.
We've asked students not to ride their E-bikes to school as they take up a lot of room in the racks, and are quite heavy and potentially unsafe if they fall over.
Week 6 Update
Year 2 English
Year 2 did a variety of activities related to the English unit focused on the features, behaviours and characteristics of animals through the mentor text, Scaly-tailed Possum and Echidna.
Fiona, Felix and Luke from 2W drew story maps and then recorded their retelling using SeeSaw.
"Story maps are good because if you forget what you are saying, you can look at your pictures and remember everything"- Evie R.
Here are some examples of echnidas 2JP and 2D created from clay during visual art lessons. Everyone had a lot of fun participating in the echidna themed activity.

Farewell Chicks!
Over the past fortnight, our Kindergarten students have had the special opportunity to observe the fascinating early stages of a chicken’s life. Welcoming baby chicks into our classroom sparked curiosity, wonder and rich discussion, as students explored the chicken life cycle, learnt about the basic needs of living things, and discovered what it means to care for animals responsibly. We will be sad to see them go, but we know the chicks will be happy at their new home on the farm. We look forward to more hands-on learning adventures in the future.
