School Newsletter Week 5 Term 2
From the Relieving Principal
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week runs each year from 27 May to 3 June with National Sorry Day on 26 May. This year the theme of NRW is Bridging Now to Next reflecting the ongoing connection between past, present and future. In this year's artwork, Kalkadoon woman Bree Buttenshaw uses native plants known for regenerating after fire and thriving through adversity, to symbolise collective strength and the possibilities of renewal. This is a time for growth, reflection, and commitment to walking together.
As part of acknowledging Sorry Day and NRW, our students have been listening to stories and songs to develop understanding of the impact of The Stolen Generation on families and communities.

Gould Street and Warners Avenue Intersection Upgrades
The pedestrian upgrades will continue over the rest of the term. Please see the link below for road closures in phase 2 of the works.
Week 5 Update
Chicks Arrive in Kindergarten
Our three Kindy classes took delivery of the incubators with eggs on Monday and it's been an exciting time watching the chicks hatch. KM had a close up view of one of the eggs hatching in real time via an iPad and the new interactive whiteboard in the classroom. There have been lots of opportunities for holding and cuddling the fluffy little chicks as they appear.

K-2 Fun Run
The weather was clear and sunny for this morning's K-2 Fun Run, following its postponement last week. The students demonstrated great enthusiasm as they participated, supported energetically by a committed group of parents who came out to cheer them on. It was a wonderful event where everyone tried their best and ran their hardest.

Premier's Debating Challenge: Round 1 Success for Bondi Beach Public School
Bondi Beach Public School's debating teams have made a strong start in Round 1 of the 2025 Premier's Debating Challenge against Bondi Public School. The Bondi Beach Breakers won their debate on the topic That it should be compulsory for Year 5 and 6 students to learn debating, by presenting strong and convincing arguments. Their clear reasoning and teamwork led them to a well-deserved victory. The Bondi Beach Boomerangs won their debate by arguing against the idea that primary school students should learn a different language each term. Their thoughtful points and clear communication helped them secure the win. Congratulations to both teams on their impressive performances. Best of luck in Round 2 against Rose Bay Public School on Wednesday, 4 June 2025.

Stage 1 Reptile Incursion
Last week, Stage 1 had a thrilling visit from Brett, the Reptile Man, who brought along a fascinating collection of reptiles that left us all in awe! We got to meet a friendly bearded dragon, a cuddly baby python and an impressively long adult python, not to mention a curious turtle and a striking blue-tongued lizard!
The excitement in the room was palpable as we watched, touched and experienced these amazing creatures up close, learning all about their unique traits. This unforgettable encounter has sparked our creativity, inspiring us to write recounts about the visit and delve into our art classes by drawing reptile eyes in intricate detail. We are excited to showcase our newfound knowledge and artistic skills!

Parent Survey - Repeat
NSW Public Schools Student Survey
In Term 2, we are offering our students in Years 3-6 the opportunity to participate in the NSW Public Schools Student Survey. The survey gives students the chance to share their thoughts and feelings about life at school, including questions about their engagement, learning experiences and wellbeing at school. Hearing directly from our students will help us understand what’s working well and where improvements can be made to our school. The survey is confidential, takes around 10 to 15 minutes to complete, and will be conducted online during school hours. Participation is voluntary. If you prefer your child not to participate, please complete the opt-out consent form and return it to the school by Wednesday 4 June. Further information about the survey is available at https://education.nsw.gov.au/npss
