National Walk Safely to School Day

Despite a wet start to the morning, many students and their families embraced the spirit of the day by walking to school. Students were welcomed at the ramp gate with a vibrant grand entrance provided by the P&C. As a fun surprise, members of the Student Representative Council handed out temporary tattoos and stickers to participating students.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the event, including the P&C and all the students who made a special effort to walk.

Congratulations to Senior S and 2JP for having the highest number of walkers—they received a special treat!

    NSW Public Schools Student Survey

In Term 2, we are offering our students in Years 3-6 the opportunity to participate in the NSW Public Schools Student Survey. The survey gives students the chance to share their thoughts and feelings about life at school, including questions about their engagement, learning experiences and wellbeing at school. Hearing directly from our students will help us understand what’s working well and where improvements can be made to our school. The survey is confidential, takes around 10 to 15 minutes to complete, and will be conducted online during school hours. Participation is voluntary. If you prefer your child not to participate, please complete the opt-out consent form  and return it to the school by Wednesday 4 June. Further information about the survey is available at https://education.nsw.gov.au/npss

    Warners Ave Footpath

Thank you to the parents who alerted us to the closure of the footpath along Warners Ave and Gould St this morning. The footpath has now been reopened and will remain open while the upgrade to the area is in progress.

    Week 4 Update

    Kindergarten  Having Fun with Halves

Kindergarten has been learning all about fractions, focusing on the concept of halves. We’ve learnt that a half means two equal parts. To explore this, we used playdough to practise halving and made shapes like squares, carefully splitting them in half. On Seesaw, we photographed leaves and used the drawing tool to show how they could be halved. These hands-on activities helped us understand that halving means making something equal and fair.

Please click the following links to hear KS students Vallie and Jack describe partitioning equal parts.

    K-2 Fun Run Postponed

Due to the risk of rain and the wet grounds this morning, the K-2 fun run has been moved to next Wednesday starting at 9.15am.

Teach your child ‘ninja-style’ friendship tricks

Making friends is a skill that can be improved like any other. Here are some concrete tips from the URSTRONG program for helping your child develop their friendship muscle.

    • Teach your child how to introduce themselves - learning how to introduce themselves is a good place for kids to start.  Role play with a teddy.
    • Ask and pass - children  don't always  know how to have a conversation. This is where the concept of ‘ask and pass’ comes in, which can be described as like a game of catch and teaches the back and forth concept of conversation.
    • Have a ‘quick question’ ready for awkward moments -  they need to lock this into their minds to use if they hit an awkward patch with a child they’re talking to. It might be Do you have a pet at home?
    • Be an inviter and includer - it’s important to empower children with the skills to build healthy friendships themselves – not just to sit back and wait for friendships to come to them. 'Do you want to come and play with me on the monkey bars?'
    • Be an includer - help your child take responsibility for introducing their friend to another friend when the situation arises.
    • Tips for shy kids - kids need to be mindful they are not inadvertently sending the message they don’t want friends, or that they are unfriendly through their body language.
    • Use the power of playdates - sometimes all kids need to hotwire a new friendship into place is one-on-one time.
    • Choosing your friend - children don’t have to be friends with everyone. We want to be kind and friendly to everyone, but friendship is a relationship that we choose.

    Kids Giving Back

Congratulations to Iko H, Tilly G, Joshua J-P and Juliet J-P for generously volunteering their time with Kids Giving Back. Together with over 500 young changemakers across Sydney, they helped prepare and deliver nearly 5,000 meals, snack packs, and care kits to vulnerable individuals. Their kindness rippled through 15 partner charities and, just as importantly, through our team and the community they supported.
