School Newsletter Week 2 Term 2

From the Relieving Principal

Congratulations!
What a pleasure to present Romy with her banner for accumulating three gold awards. This is a significant achievement and means that she has been consistently following our school values of being a safe, kind, respectful active learner. Excellent work Romy!
Uniform Check
Please take a moment to check that your child is wearing correct uniform each day. We value our uniform and want to look smart. It also helps our students feel like they belong, take pride in their school, encourages discipline and helps everyone focus better on learning.
Please check that your child is dressed in the correct uniform every day. This includes:
- Only BBPS uniform items
- Black shoes and navy or white socks
- Minimal jewellery - earrings if needed should be discreet studs, no dangling earrings for safety reasons.
- Long hair tied back and navy or black hair accessories (ribbons, elastics, headbands)
- Skirts/skorts the right size and appropriate length (some are too short to enable appropriate participation in school activities)
Thank you for your support in helping our students look like the proud BBPS people we know we are!
Temporary Loss of Car Spaces in Warners Ave
As the Warners Ave/Gould St pedestrian upgrade is now underway, we have temporarily lost two car spaces near the school zone. We kindly ask everyone to be mindful and respectful when parking in the area. To help ease congestion, please consider staggering your drop-off and pick-up times or exploring alternative ways to get to school. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as we work together to ensure a safe and accessible environment for all.
Week 2 Update
Stage 2 Science
In science this term, Year 3 and 4 are learning about states of matter. Thus far, students have learned that the three main states of matter are solids, liquids and gasses. Students also learned that matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. To test this, students did an experiment where two deflated balloons were taped to the ends of a meter stick. Students had to predict what would happen when one balloon was fully inflated, would it go down, stay the same, or go up. The result was that the inflated balloon had more mass and went down because all matter, including gas has mass.
Questions to ask your child:
Why did the balloon go down when it was inflated?
What are the three main states of matter?

Walk to School Day - Friday 16 May

Walk to School Day this year is next Friday 16 May.
The aim is to consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.
You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:
- Walking with them the whole way to school
- If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop
- If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.
Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.
Sport
PSSA and School Sport Reminder
School sport and PSSA for Years 3-6 commence on Friday. Please remember that lunch orders from the canteen aren't available for PSSA students although they can still order for recess.
If your child requires special clothing or equipment for sport, please double check that they have packed it in their bag before school to save multiple office phone calls and drop offs of forgotten items.
Sydney FC at BBPS
On Monday Sydney FC came to our school to train the PSSA soccer teams. We had an amazing time doing drills and playing matches. Everyone learnt so much and we hope they come again soon!

P&C

Year 6 Democracy Sausage & Cake Stall
This past Saturday, the Year 6 Graduation Fundraising Team took to the Bondi Markets for Election Day - and what a day it was! It turns out voting is hungry work! We cooked an incredible 850 sausages and went through 20 kilograms of onions. The effort was truly impressive. In the lead-up to the event, the kids baked up a storm to make sure we had plenty of delicious treats on offer. On the day, they rolled up their sleeves and helped run the cake stall and take payments. They were absolutely amazing!
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the support of our wonderful parent volunteers. A huge thank you to everyone who gave their time and energy, especially those who went above and beyond by doing double shifts or staying longer than four hours. It was such a great team effort, and it was heartening to see everyone come together to support the cause.
Thank you to:
Richard Pearson, Belinda Skridlova, Kate Joseph, Rachel Bowater, Harmco de Jong, Laurentine Ten Bosch, Steve Brennan, Gareth Furey, Emily Luke, Elli Hyde, Alison Henrici, Louise Byrne, Jae Maher, Maria Milan, Victoria MacKinlay and our fabulous P&C Secretary, Linda Schlagmueller, who pulled it all together.
Why Do Year 6 Students Fundraise?
For those new to the school, our Year 6 students fundraise throughout the year to help cover the costs of their graduation celebrations. This includes their graduation dinner and dance, a special day out (with transport), the Yearbook, and more. Their tireless efforts ensure that every Year 6 student can enjoy the same memorable experience as they graduate from Bondi Beach Public School - regardless of individual circumstances.
Note, our next P&C meeting will be 7pm Wednesday 14 May in the school staff room.
See you all on Friday at the Mother's Day Event!
