Week 10 Update
NAIDOC Week Mufti Day
Last Wednesday our school kicked off the celebration of NAIDOC Week with a vibrant display of unity and culture, as students donned the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags.
The day was filled with excitement as we engaged in five indigenous games, including Koloa, Gorri, Keentan, Kai, and Koolchee, with each activity fostering teamwork and fun. Highlights included the challenge of keeping the ball up in Kai and the competitive spirit of Koolchee, where teams aimed to knock down each other's bowling pins.
Students also contributed by bringing a gold coin donation to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in making this event a memorable celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture!

Yarn Time
On Monday, I had the great privilege of attending a special day of activities at Bondi Public School. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by both students and staff. It didn’t take long before we were fully immersed in a day of playing, sharing stories, and building connections.
One of the highlights of the day was a hands-on cooking activity where students were invited into the school’s cottage to make their own pizzas. The experience was not only fun but also educational, as students prepared ingredients themselves, selected fresh herbs from the native vegetable garden, and took part in cooking their delicious creations. It was a truly eventful and engaging day—one filled with laughter, learning, and community spirit. We are already looking forward to the next opportunity to come together and strengthen the bonds between our schools. - Ms Duncan

Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition
Congratulations to Poppy B and Harper R who represented the school at the zone public speaking competition. Both did extremely well during their prepared and impromptu speeches and received Highly Commended Awards for their efforts.

Music
Music Immersion Day at Rose Bay Secondary College
On Monday the band students enjoyed participating in a combined schools workshop. This fantastic musical day was led by Murray Jackson, head of musical ensembles and the creative arts team at Rose Bay Secondary College. Students from a range of public schools in the Eastern Suburbs joined together with RBSC students to create a combined schools band.
Students rehearsed and performed three new pieces of music - the toe tapping Bunyip Blues, the suspenseful The Spook and the epic Fanfare of Champions. Thanks to RBSC students who mentored the students in a fantastic day of music and collaboration. Grateful to BBPS parents who assisted with transportation.

Festival of Instrumental Music Rehearsal
Last Thursday students from Year 3-6 Recorder Ensemble attended the Festival of Instrumental Music rehearsal at Marsden High School. This was a combined schools rehearsal from across the Sydney region.
They rehearsed a diverse repertoire of music - from the 1600's baroque piece Rondo to an arrangement of the contemporary tune Fireflies. Lastly the dynamic Elvenwood is a combined piece to be performed with a recorder soloist and string ensemble.
It was a fun and inspiring rehearsal as they prepare for their performance at Sydney Opera House next term. Well done to the students in the recorder group who demonstrated such commitment to musicianship and performance and were fantastic representatives of BBPS.

Sport
Athletics Carnival Update
Due to the inclement weather, there are changes to tomorrow's Athletics Carnival. Years 3-6 will proceed with the planned event. Kindergarten - Year 2 has been postponed and will be held at a later date.
PSSA and Non-PSSA Sydney Coastal Zone Indigenous Round
On Friday, all PSSA teams took part in an Indigenous Round. Before the games began, students joined with other schools to deliver an Acknowledgement of Country. To mark the occasion, many students proudly wore red, black, yellow, green, white or blue ribbons and face paint, symbolising their recognition and celebration of Indigenous culture.
PSSA has concluded for Term 2 but a reminder that other sports continue on Friday.

Sydney East Coast Football Trials
Congratulations to Manning, Matteo and Romy who competed last week in the Sydney Coastal Football Trials at Kareela Oval. The teams were commended for their sportsmanship, attitude, and football skills. The boys team placed 3rd and the girls team place 6th, well done!

P&C
City2Surf Fundraiser - Sunday 10 August
Help Serve Up Bondi Vibes (and Bacon Rolls) This City2Surf!
Since 2013, the BBPS P&C has proudly run secure, paid parking within the school grounds during the annual City2Surf event. This tradition has become a highlight of our fundraising calendar - not only helping to raise valuable funds for our school, but also offering a practical service to running clubs, groups of friends, and many of the volunteers who help make City2Surf such a memorable day.
Last year, we expanded our offering to include a breakfast BBQ, with fantastic results. It turns out both a car park and a bacon and egg roll are in high demand on a City2Surf morning!
We’ve got the sizzle and the spaces - now we just need the crew!
We’re calling for volunteers to join the team; whether your talent lies in parking logistics or flipping 60 sausages to perfection, there’s a high viz vest for you. It’s a really fun morning with a brilliant atmosphere. You’ll be part of the City2Surf vibe, cheering on runners as they pass by, soaking up the energy, and showing everyone just how strong our Bondi community spirit is.
👉 Please use this quick sign-up sheet to let us know when and how you’re keen to pitch in.
